Wow! You have no idea how greatly appreciative I am of this guide! I read through the whole thing! I’ve been attending anime conventions for several years now, but this year I’m attending as a first time artist alley…er…artist, and I felt extremely nervous since I lack experience of any kind, but this guide really reassured me and gave me confidence that I’ll do well! Thank you so much!

This is excellent. I still think it’s a bit far off for me to go to an artist alley, but this is such an informative guide. It makes me definitely want to set a goal to get into the artist alley. :3 I draw but I also sew as well I wonder how well my slight variety would do?

For my cashbox, I picked up an index-card case with dividers. That way I can have the bills sorted by denomination, but it still fits nearly invisibly into my apron pocket.

I read most of this and definitely found myself nodding at most of the things you had to say. We learned the hard way at our first artist alley by bringing a Debbie Downer to sell with us, but reading your experienced report really highlights everything she did wrong (beyond the fact her profits were far lower than that of my other friend and I!). I’m glad I have a good guide to default on to avoid being like that girl myself :O

Eric: that depends entirely on the con you want to sell at. I’ve seen young artists before, although they tend to be accompanied by a parent most of the time. I suggest you email the artist alley organizer of the convention you’d like to sign up for and ask them what their policy is: do you need to be 16 or 18, can you sell if a parent signs you up, does an older person need to be with you, etc.

Hi I was just wondering how old you have to be to sell at an artist alley. I’m only 13 (Sample:http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz101/Nippondaisuki44/PosterUmbrellaloliyabeta.png?t=1258260971) and would really love to sign up. You said here: “A diet of Pocky and Ramune works great when you’re sixteen and on a permanent sugar high…” so I assume you’re implying you can be 16 to sell? Under 18. Does that mean I can sell my art if a parent signs me up? Thanks
